Best Time to Visit Albania — A Month by Month Guide

travel tips seasons planning culture

Albania is a year-round destination, but each season offers a completely different experience. Here's what to expect month by month — and when car rental is most in demand (so book early!).

Spring (April–May) — The Best Kept Secret

Spring is arguably Albania's finest season. The landscapes are impossibly green, wildflowers carpet the mountain meadows, and the coastal resorts are quiet. Temperatures are mild — 18–25°C on the coast — and you'll have UNESCO sites like Berat and Gjirokastra almost to yourself. Car rental prices are lower and availability is excellent.

Summer (June–August) — Peak Season

Summer brings warm sea temperatures (25°C+), long days and a festive atmosphere on the Riviera. July and August are the busiest months — Saranda, Himara and Ksamil are packed with Albanian diaspora and European visitors. Book your rental car well in advance, especially for SUVs. Roads can be congested on the coast.

Autumn (September–October) — Our Top Recommendation

September is perfect. The sea is still warm (22–24°C), crowds have thinned, prices drop and the light is golden. The mountains are turning amber. September and October are ideal for hiking in the Alps and visiting inland cities. This is the Hana Rental team's personal favourite time to be on the road.

Winter (November–March) — For the Adventurous

Coastal Albania has mild winters (10–15°C) with occasional rain. The mountains receive heavy snow — the Albanian Alps are spectacular in winter but many roads are impassable without a 4WD. Tirana and Gjirokastra are atmospheric and crowd-free. Ski resorts at Korça and Voskopoja attract winter visitors.

Whatever time of year you visit, Hana Rental has the right car for the conditions. Summer beach trips call for an economical compact; autumn mountain adventures need an SUV. Contact us and we'll help you choose the perfect vehicle for your trip.
