Ksamil is a small coastal village in southern Albania renowned for its crystal-clear turquoise waters, white sandy beaches, and three offshore islands. Often compared to the Greek islands, it's the jewel of the Albanian Riviera.
Ksamil sits at the very southern tip of Albania's Ionian coastline, just a few kilometres from the Greek border and the ancient city of Butrint. Its beaches — fine white sand lapped by turquoise water so clear you can see the bottom from 10 metres — are among the finest in the entire Mediterranean.
The three small islands just offshore are the defining feature of Ksamil. In summer, boats ferry visitors out for the day, though the water is calm enough to swim or paddle to the nearest one. Snorkelling is excellent — the underwater visibility can exceed 20 metres on calm days.

Beyond the beach, Ksamil is the perfect base for exploring the nearby Butrint National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site containing ruins spanning Greek, Roman, Byzantine and Venetian periods — all dramatically set beside a saltwater lagoon. It's one of Albania's most impressive archaeological sites.
Ksamil is about 4 hours' drive south of Tirana, making it ideal for a 2–3 night stay rather than a day trip. The drive from Saranda — just 17km north — along the coast is spectacular. Ksamil is busiest in July and August; late June and September offer the best balance of warm weather and manageable crowds.
