Thethi
Thethi is a remote mountain village nestled in the heart of the Albanian Alps. Known for its dramatic scenery, the famous Valbona-Theth trek, and traditional stone towers, it's one of Albania's most rewarding destinations.
Thethi sits in a deep valley carved by the Shala River, surrounded by towering limestone peaks of the Albanian Alps. This remote village is only accessible by a winding mountain road from Shkodër — but those who make the journey are rewarded with some of the most spectacular scenery in the Balkans.
The village is famous as the endpoint of the legendary Valbona-to-Theth trek, one of Albania's greatest hiking routes. The trail crosses the Valbona Pass at around 1,800 metres, offering panoramic views across the Accursed Mountains before descending into the Theth Valley. Most hikers complete it in 5–7 hours.

Don't miss Grunas Waterfall, a short hike from the village centre, and the historic Lock-In Tower (Kulla e Ngujimit) — a stone refuge used during blood feuds under the Kanun, Albania's ancient code of honour. The Theth church, built in 1892, is one of the finest examples of traditional Albanian mountain architecture.
Accommodation in Thethi is in traditional guesthouses offering home-cooked mountain meals. The best time to visit is June through September. An SUV or crossover is strongly recommended — the road from Shkodër includes unpaved sections that can be challenging in a standard vehicle.
